Business Days Calculator

Count the number of weekdays between two dates, excluding weekends.

So funktioniert's

This calculator counts the number of business days (weekdays, Monday through Friday) between two dates, stepping through every calendar day in the range and excluding Saturdays and Sundays from the total.

This differs from a simple date-difference calculation: a two-week span (14 calendar days) typically contains only 10 business days, since each 7-day week includes 2 weekend days. The exact split between weekdays and weekend days depends on which days of the week the start and end dates fall on.

Business day counts are used constantly in commercial and legal contexts: shipping and delivery estimates ("5-7 business days"), payment processing timelines, legal notice periods, and project deadlines are almost always specified in business days rather than calendar days, since weekends typically involve no business activity for most organizations.

One important limitation: this calculator excludes only Saturdays and Sundays, not public holidays. A shipping estimate of "5 business days" that happens to span a national holiday will actually take 6 calendar-adjusted business days in practice, since that holiday isn't a working day either — you'll need to manually subtract any holidays that fall within your date range for a fully accurate count.

Public holidays are excluded from this calculation because they vary enormously by country, region, and even individual company policy — there's no single universal holiday calendar this tool could apply correctly for every user, so the weekday/weekend distinction is the one universally applicable rule it can compute reliably.

Does it exclude public holidays?

No — only Saturdays and Sundays are excluded. Adjust the result manually for holidays specific to your region.

Why doesn't this calculator include public holidays automatically?

Holiday calendars vary significantly by country, region, and company, so there's no single universal list this tool could apply correctly for every user — only the weekday/weekend distinction is universal.

How many business days are typically in a 2-week period?

Usually 10, since a standard 14-day span contains exactly two weekends (4 weekend days), leaving 10 weekdays — though this can shift by a day or two depending on which days of the week the range starts and ends on.

Why is my shipping estimate taking longer than the stated business days?

If any public holidays fall within the shipping window, they add extra calendar time beyond what a pure weekday count captures, since holidays aren't working days for the carrier either.

Does this assume a Monday-Friday work week?

Yes — it uses the standard Monday-through-Friday business week convention. If your organization uses a different work week (some regions use Sunday-Thursday, for example), you'd need to adjust the count manually.

How do I calculate a deadline that's a certain number of business days from today?

This calculator finds business days between two known dates; to solve the reverse (find the date N business days from today), you'd count forward day by day, skipping weekends, until reaching the target count.

Is this the same as working days?

Yes — 'business days' and 'working days' are used interchangeably to mean weekdays excluding weekends.

Can I use this for legal notice period calculations?

It's a useful starting point for the weekday count, but legal notice periods often have jurisdiction-specific rules about which holidays count and how partial days are treated — verify with the specific legal requirement rather than relying solely on this general calculation.

Does the count include both the start and end date?

Yes — both endpoint dates are included in the day-by-day count if they fall on a weekday.

How do project managers use business day calculations?

Project timelines and delivery estimates are typically planned in business days rather than calendar days, since work generally doesn't happen on weekends — this calculator helps translate a calendar date range into the actual working-day duration.

What if the start and end date are the same?

The result is 1 business day if that date falls on a weekday, or 0 if it falls on a weekend.
